The story

A crowned king sits on his throne in an open pavilion, steps leading up to him and hills and trees stretching away behind. The verse names him the lord of the forests, who has climbed from the lowest place to the highest. This is the ninth figure of the Book of Lambspring, engraved by Matthäus Merian and printed at Frankfurt in 1678 in the Musaeum Hermeticum. After the beasts of the earlier figures, the poem turns here to a king: the work reaching its first rank.
