The story

A king and a queen meet in a bath, or lie together beneath a shared crown — the coniunctio, the alchemical marriage, and the emotional heart of the Rosarium Philosophorum. The Rosarium, printed in 1550 with a celebrated series of woodcuts, told the whole Great Work as the courtship, union, death, and rebirth of a royal pair, sol and luna made one flesh. The images are frank and tender, and they carried far: Carl Jung would later read the entire sequence as a map of the psyche. Here is one of its central plates — the moment of union, drawn as plainly and strangely as a folk tale.

  • Ships in 5–10 business days, rolled in a heavy-wall tube (framed pieces ship flat-packed).
  • If it arrives less than perfect, we reprint or refund — your choice.

Why our plates cost more than a poster: we print from the highest-resolution scans available, at sizes where the engraving itself becomes visible — the emblem line, the letterpress bite, the registration of colour — on stock made to outlive its owner.
