The story
Under the Moon in her chariot, her children pursue the watery, wandering trades she was thought to rule — millers and fishermen, fowlers and bathers, gamblers and travellers, and those who work by night. This 'Children of Luna' follows the tradition of the German Housebook of about 1480, one plate in a set that gave each of the seven planets a bustling scene of the people and pursuits it governed. It is astrology as social portrait: the sky sorted humanity into seven kinds, and the artists drew each kind at work and play. The Moon's, fittingly, is full of water — rivers, mills, and a world in motion.
